Heinz Ketchup has an interesting promotion under way, but there are some caveats. They’re offering consumers the opportunity to buy ketchup with custom-made labels that they themselves designed (MyHeinz.com). You get up to three lines to have your witticisms imprinted on the labels, and then have the ketchup shipped directly to you (at a cost of $6 a bottle). Trying it out, we got shot down early as we selected a “forbidden” word (And never you mind what that word was.) We then went to the “Terms and Conditions” page, which kinda ruined it for us: “You will not submit any ‘objectionable’ material for inclusion on the Product. ‘Objectionable’ means, among other things, anything that is libelous, defamatory, pornographic, sexually explicit, unlawful, racially or ethnically offensive, [or] is something people would consider harassing, abusive, threatening, harmful, vulgar, profane, obscene, or violent…” OK, another sale lost. Hope they’re happy.
