NICHE, NICHE, NICHE

We love a company that can take a seemingly insignificant product and market it to pieces, so much so that they become huge. Case in point today are those little sharp pieces of wood known as “golf tees,” and the company smart enough to grab the domain name, GolfTees.com. In order to maintain their share of this sizable market, they’ve just put out a release identifying the four most popular types of tees they sell for the gift-giving season. (And not being a golfer, we had no idea there was more than one type. We GOTTA get out more.) They are: High-Tech, for straighter and farther drives; Traditional, which is your basic wood; Personalized or logo, which should be pretty self-explanatory, and our new favorite, Flavorful. The last one is described as follows: “Sometimes, a golfer just can't help putting the tip of a golf tee in their mouth. Golfers can do just that with a hot new product called ‘Tasty Golf Tees.’” We assume “turf” isn’t one of the tastes.

I am a golfer and unless those tees can be flavored in beer, cigars, or hot dogs - consider it a tough sell.

Thanks for noticing our Press Release and writing your "Short" on our company! We've had a lot of fun developing the golf tee market online. Turned out that the Tasty Golf Tees were an incredible hit as holiday gifts. Sales were staggering. They did a great job introducing their product with some targeted Press Releases and were picked up by Reuters, MSNBC, XM Radio and dozens of other media outlets.

Who knows what flavors will be next? But it wouldn't surprise me if a bizarre flavor such as beer, cigar or hot dog was seriously on the board. From a marketing perspective...they certainly would keep the flavored golf tee chatter flowing.
