Got a pitch from a company called Good4uKid.com, which manufactures and distributes a new type of board game. The game is designed to help teens and pre-teens by “simply providing education on prevention awareness of tobacco, alcohol and marijuana.” Sounds good, but then they offered a peek inside the game’s workings: “When playing Denial, you will be faced with questions such as ‘You are at a dance and a good-looking member of the opposite sex comes up to you and offers you a joint. What do you do?’ Or, you may have to make decisions such as ‘Is it more important to be popular or keep your values?’” Oy. We have teens lurking about, and we already suspect what their answer might be. And we also suspect what their reaction might be to our bringing home such a game. But this being a Family Newsletter, we’ll spare your sensitive eyes…
