THE TAGLINE THAT REFUSED TO DIE

Marketers of a certain age will remember the famous TV spot for LifeCall automatic response medallions with the tagline that went “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!” Presuming that old classics never die, Hallmark greeting cards has now licensed that classic soundbite for a new card that features the whiny saying. (For those who don’t recall it, or prefer not to live in the past, it’s available on YouTube HERE. It comes in at the :28 mark.). A press release declined to indicate what the copy of the card will say, but a quick search of Hallmark.com turned up this possible candidate: Front Message: “You're another year older, but you can still GET DOWN!” Inside Message: “The Question is, can you still GET UP? Have a happy birthday, and be careful out there.” Yeah, not so funny if you’re of a certain age, but it probably plays better than it reads. And the editor in us thinks it would read better if they inserted the word “it” on the inside. Ahem.
