Pet foods, toys and other products that originated in China have been in the news lately as concerns over lead contamination increase. Sensing an opportunity, a company called EcoNugenics is pushing its “PectaSol Chelation Complex.” Which is what, exactly? “A gentle, safe and effective formula that can help get rid of the lead in the body,” they tell us. They go into greater detail at their Web site, EcoNugenics.com, but briefly, they allege that taking their formula “resulted in significant increase in the urinary excretion of heavy metals including mercury and lead.” OK, all together now: “Ewwwww! The stuff goes for eighty bucks for 180 capsules. Here’s our advice: Keep lead-based junk away from your kids.
