Thrifty Car Rental is trying a new way to increase its bottom line and keep its inventory busy as much as possible. The subsidiary of Dollar Automotive is marketing car rentals by the hour in New York City. While on paper this might sound like a swell idea ($19 for two hours), we think once some unsuspecting tourists fall for this and try to wheel around the Big Apple for an hour or two, they’ll find out rather quickly about the city’s legendary gridlock. No real worries, though. If they should get trapped in the no-escape maze of Columbus Circle, the most they’ll pay for a full-day rental is sixty bucks. Hey, welcome to New York! Heh.
Well I have actually used the hourly promotion, Simple Easy. Last week I needed to go to a meeting in Paramus NJ I have paid over $200.00 to a car service (round Trip) in the past and I have tried to use ZIP Car but I really don't want a member ship or monthly commitment. The Thrifty Program is as easy as it gets. I had the car for 4 hours and paid less then $44.00 with the Tax. I know where I am going for my next hourly rental.
