U.K. retailer DisplaySense makes all sorts of mannequins and display cases for retail outlets, and says it just got an unusual request from one the country’s largest pet product retailers. Seems that pet retailer wants to offer sealed acrylic boxes for folks to display the remains of their dead pets. “The pet shop retailer plans to promote these acrylic displays as a way for customers to create elaborate memorials in their gardens for their beloved deceased stuffed pets,” the company said in a statement [Ed.: We added the italics.]. Further, “This enquiry has arisen due to a growing demand from the pet shop chains’ customers to be able to see their pet after it has passed away.” Lovely. And finally, in British understatement, they note, “The fact that deceased animals could soon be on display in gardens around the country could anger some animal activists, saying that this is a step too far.” Oh, you think so? Reminds us of that famous quote from one M. Python: “This parrot is no more! It has ceased to be!” Indeed.
