In its ongoing effort to get its brand out there and keep awareness high (no pun intended), the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States took its case to Washington. In a unanimous vote, just before it adjourned, the U.S. Senate voted to declare September 2007 "National Bourbon Heritage Month." An industry rep was quoted as saying, “America's distilling heritage is intertwined with the history of the nation. This legislation will help bring that history back into focus for many Americans, and help us celebrate our bourbon heritage—responsibly!” (Exclamation his.) The resolution “…calls on consumers who enjoy bourbon to do so responsibly and in moderation.” Yes, thank you for that, Senators. (Man, what would we do without Washington to guide us?)
